What is goblintown.wtf NFT?

Sometimes a project comes along that is so ridiculous, so deprived of any utility, that people have a hard time understanding why the project has gotten traction in the first place. That’s the story of Goblin Town NFT. This project has no utility or roadmap and doesn’t even have a discord. But it still grew and became a blue chip project, no less.

Goblintown.wtf: goblin themed PFP NFTs

Goblin Town NFT is a collection of 10,000 goblin-themed NFTs algorithmically generated from hand-drawn traits (it looks like). No whitepaper exists for this project, so the best thing we have to say about this project, like the other publications, is that it is an “irreverent NFT” meant to exude the crude humor of the adult swim cartoons – but only more disgusting.

Goblin Town came out in mid-May, a few days before the arrival of the crypto winter, and quickly gained the interest of the NFT enthusiasts due to its quirky, dirty, and grimy humor. Then one after another, the projects started to break new ground in the NFT space, gaining the attention of many major crypto publications.

It soon became certain that this project was here to not just stay but rule. After its launch, the token took the Twitter space and pushed rapidly upwards in the price charts, reaching 5.4ETH. Even the bearish sentiments of the crypto market weren’t able to shoot it down, for the project gave much-needed laughs to those who suffered losses during that period.

It wasn’t until the middle of June that Goblin Town WTF saw a significant drop in price to 2.7ETH. But that was still not that significant. Afterward, its price started to correctly slowly and slowly until it reached 1ETH, which became the accumulation point for this NFT project.

It is one of the purposeless NFTs whose existence is similar to that of a memecoin. Social media likes it just because of its crude humor. And if you’re a Redditor, this NFT is a goldmine. These comedic factors, and the fact that there was no news about the developers of this NFT project, got the crypto crowd very curious. It led to its price soaring past the likes of Bored Ape Yacht Club, Invisible Friends, and Imaginary Ones NFT at one point.

But how much mileage does this NFT really has? And even if it does, does the NFT artist community equipped enough to make this NFT a lot more usable than it pretends not to be? The answer, it seems, is yes.

Who are the founders of the Goblintown.wtf NFT project?

For the longest time, it seemed like the Goblin Town WTF NFT project didn’t have any founder. Rumors started to circulate around that Mike Judge must be the creator behind this project. It is partly because the humor of this NFT project is reminiscent of Beavus and Butthead.

Only after the arrival of a Twitter video was some light shed on the minds behind the project. It was Truthlabs. In a video, they described themselves as a collective of creators working within the NFT space. They called themselves the Illuminati Collective. However, it is as if they didn’t want to reveal much because these developers doxed themselves from Twitter the very next day – becoming completely transparent.

Due to these rumored developers’ responses, people have fallen in love with this project even more, going as far as buying multiple ones at one time.

What are the origins of Goblintown.wtf?

Goblin Town WTF NFT project’s origin story is that it has no origin. All it is known is that it was launched on May 22 – which was right after the terra crash – and it maintained significant stability during that period. The developers provided one free NFT plus gas mint per wallet for this project.

On the official website, you will see two goblins, Urki and Garf, texting each other in gibberish. These texts provided us with the first insight into what this project is about.

The project is about artworks and providing those who buy the NFT as much freedom as they want. It is, perhaps, the main reason that the developers behind this project only came in front of their audience for a while and then left rather quickly.

Scrolling down these texts, we could see that the two goblins were creating this project’s model, the ecosystem. Goblin Town is a grimy, dirty place to live in where these disease-ridden goblins, with a, loose grasp on the English language, reside.

Even the original script on Opensea of this project is gibberish. It states:

“AAAAAAAUUUUUGGGHHHHH gobblins goblinns GOBLINNNNNNNNns wekm ta goblintown yoo sniksnakr DEJEN RATS oooooh rats are yummmz dis a NEFTEEE O GOBBLINGS on da BLOKCHIN wat? oh. crustybutt da goblinking say GEE EMMM DEDJEN RUTS an queenie saay HLLO SWEATIES ok dats all byeby.”

After a careful inspection, we realized that this thinly veiled gibberish states that Goblin is an NFT on the Ethereum Blockchain.

Thankfully, some terms on the official website are legible. The official website reads that the developers have reserved 1,000 goblins for themselves – with no explanation about why that is.

What Makes Goblintown.wtf unique?

Goblin Town WTF NFT is unique because of the obscurity around it. No one knows why this project exists, and no one seems to care. As we already stated, the project has no roadmap, no utility, no discord, and no CCO.

The last part is important because it gives the NFT holders the creative freedom to do whatever they want with this NFT. Furthermore, the official website also says that the smart contract of this project wasn’t written by the goblins.

Due to these quirky reasons, this project is unique. However, looking deeper into this project, we find that immense potential lies within its belly.

An Adult-Swim Like TV show can come into existence: With the character’s crude humor, it is easy to imagine that a Rick and Morty type of TV show can soon arrive for this project.

Merchandising: The NFT NYC event saw the project launching merchandise, and not limited to food. The developers partnered with a food company and created Goblin Sauce.

Metaverse Integration: Since the project has no CCO – holders can use the NFT in any way they want. It gives room for 3D renderings to emerge soon. Who knows, maybe we will see a Goblin hanging around in one of the metaverses.

Goblin Town is a unique NFT whose only utility comes from the fact that there is no backstory. But since it also has a No CCO clause, it allows NFT enthusiasts to develop new stories moving forward.

Goblintown.wtf NFT – Traits Breakdown

Here is the breakdown of the Goblin Town WTF NFT traits

1 of 1 – these are individual hand-drawn NFTs

25 Boddee

20 Eers

27 Eye on dat side

29 Eye on dis side

28 Hedz

23 Munchyhole

1 djeimedbie

24 stankfinder

For all intents and purposes, this NFT project is truly unique because of the names of the trait alone.
