For example, using an M1 Serum results in basic, subtle mutations on the Bored Ape NFT. The maximum limit for M1 serums was 7,500 and examples of mutations include faded fur or accessories coming alive. Using M2 Serum results in more prominent and noticeable mutations that can completely change the appearance of the Bored Ape NFT to a Mutant Bored Ape. The original amount of M2 serums was almost 2,492 and allowed for the creation of a fully mutated version of the BAYC NFTs.

The mutated traits of the Mutant Apes will still retain similarities to the original Bored Apes. For example, if a Bored Ape NFT was wearing a party hat and then mutated with a serum, the party hat would still be present on the mutated variant. The accessories, fur colour, expression and other traits may also change in the Mutated Apes but the base traits will be retained.

While 10,000 NFTs were offered for sale, the airdrop of the remaining 10,000 to Bored Apes NFT holders was not announced. On the other hand, once the sale was concluded, all the NFT Mutant Bored Apes were revealed.

The mutant ape yacht club mint date was setted at August 28, 2021. The minting method, a Dutch-style auction, started at a price of 3 ETH (about $10,000 at the time) and was scheduled to drop to 0.01 ETH for nine hours. However, as you can imagine, the auction did not last the full nine hours, barely lasting an hour and reaching a final price of approximately 2.79 ETH when all the Mutant Bored Apes were minted.

Surprising was also the airdrop to the owners of BAYC, who received about 10,000 Mutant Serums with which bored ape mutation happened and the NFT Mutant Ape Yacht Club was born. The other 10,000 NFT Serums were put up for auction and their re-sale price went directly to the moon.
